About The Gorbach Foundation

The Work We Do:

The Gorbach Foundation is using its contacts and expertise to specifically assist the Ukrainian scientific community. It aims to allow scientists to live freely and provide for themselves, whilst also contributing to global scientific advancement. Unless a targeted and dedicated program of preservation, redevelopment and reconstruction is immediately put in place, the loss and destruction of scientific communities and facilities risks putting the advancement of science in the country back by decades.

To minimise the cost of the loss that the country has already endured, we wish to ensure as much of the scientific infrastructure that exists can remain in-tact for the benefit of science, the communities it supports, and its contribution to the country as a whole, both financially and technologically.

While many war and aid efforts are focussed on providing much-needed, life-saving humanitarian aid, The Gorbach Foundation is using its contacts and expertise to specifically assist the scientific community; to allow them to live freely and to provide for themselves, whilst also contributing to global scientific advancement.

We enable Ukrainian scientists to continue their work:
  • Providing placements within UK universities and technology companies
  • Encourage major stakeholders to host scientists affected by the conflict
  • Support the scientists who continue working in Ukraine
  • Our partnership with Stopford focuses on bringing Ukrainian scientists to Stopford facilities to work on R&D projects
  • Gain access to the scientific community in their host countries
Our Goal:
  • to enable scientists to continue their research in safety with appropriate facilities
  • to provide bursaries to fund their research
  • to preserve Ukraine’s scientific legacy of innovation and contribution to the international scientific community

The Future of the Foundation:

Despite the adversities faced by the Ukrainian scientific community, its resilience is proving extraordinary: research has resumed in some areas, including Lviv, Kyiv, and Dnipro.

Our work focuses on supporting scientists who have remained in Ukraine, and supporting those who have managed to relocate to other countries around the world of their own accord. We aim to establish a system to bring displaced professional Ukrainian scientists to the UK to allow them to continue their research in safety as well as sharing their knowledge and experience which will benefit the scientific community worldwide.

Why Donations Are Essential To The Future:

We aim to fund at least 10 scientists per annum to continue their internationally essential work & research.

The Foundation’s work will strengthen ties between British and Ukrainian scientific communities, advancing research and studies in both countries. The knowledge sharing enabled by this project will be indispensable to the innovation and nurturing of the international scientific community.

Essential scientific research projects started in Ukraine will be preserved and new ones established thanks to links made between scientists and labs around the world.

What Your Donations Enable Us To Do:
  • Help us find accommodation and work placements for Ukrainian scientists. We work with them to gain access to laboratories, research facilities, equipment and to engage with the scientific community in their host countries. In addition, we ensure that these scientists and their families are safe and that their skills, expertise and projects are not lost.
  • Fund and support Ukrainian scientists and their families who remain in Ukraine. We help them replace equipment, relocate facilities and ensure they continue to have access to the worldwide scientific network to share ideas and technology.

The Gorbach Foundation is the only charity of this kind in the UK. The work championed by Ukrainian scientists has a rich history of advancing world science. Projects essential to human advancement are being lost due to the conflict. The work that the Gorbach Foundation does not only protects essential scientific discoveries, but the lives of scientists and their families.
